President:

In serving as President, I have the distinct privilege and honor of leading the Student Government Association, and through it, the student body, this semester. This marks my fourth semester on the SGA, having previously served as a Class Representative and as Mentor Program Coordinator. In my current role, it will be my purpose to work together with the SGA to help strengthen the student community at Saba University; to help empower the students here to a greater level of success through our coordinated efforts. We have an unprecedented opportunity before us to rebuild and reshape this community, which has been strained and tested by the rigors of this pandemic. I know that not only as individuals, but also as an institution, we have a tremendous amount of potential, and I am here to do my part in converting that potential into the kinetic.

Before starting medical school at Saba University, I lived in my native New Hampshire, USA. I enjoyed many activities including hiking all of the forty-eight peaks above 4,000 feet of elevation in the state, as well as bicycling, cooking, and watching classic films. Since moving to Saba I have become an avid, amateur scuba diver, enjoying the vast amount of diving available on Saba’s protected reefs. I look forward to a career in medicine, most likely in a surgical specialty.

I have a passion for mentorship and will gladly meet with students to help provide any words of guidance and lessons learned from my experience. I look forward to a promising and fruitful semester working with my fellow students.

1st Semester Class Reps:

Matt Stearns

Salutations, my name is Matthew Stearns, and I have the honor of being one of the first semester class representatives. I have had a passion for medicine for as long as I can remember. I graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 2018 with my BS in Biochemistry and Biology. While taking a couple of gap years I worked to increase my clinical experience and ended up as the chief medical scribe of my local hospital. This was a wonderful opportunity which afforded me the ability to see over 5,000 patients, hundreds of surgeries, and work every day with doctors in specialties as diversified as orthopedic surgery, primary care, addiction medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and podiatry. I also had the wonderful experience of recruiting, training, and managing a dedicated team of scribes. When I am not doing something medical, I love to hike (including all 48 of the 4,000 foot peaks of my native New Hampshire), alpine ski, cook, and read – mostly historical nonfiction. I am delighted to be here at Saba and look forward to working together with our class and the SGA!

I am a certified phlebotomist (PBT-ASCP), but also performed some processing and testing in the lab, as well as administrative and support tasks for the lab management team. While pursuing my undergraduate degree I also completed programs and was registered with the NREMT as an intermediate level emergency medical technician, although I never actually practiced. I am excited to be in medical school and have never served in SGA in any other capacity, so I am also excited to learn more about how I can better serve my class and school in this role.

Hi everybody! My name is Karan Tiwari, and I'm glad to be part of SUSOM's SGA as the 2nd semester representative. Originally from London, UK, I've been living in Brampton, ON, Canada (right next to Toronto) for the past 9 years. I received a B.Sc in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo, and I'm hoping to use my knowledge gained from my time there and at Saba to get into orthopedic surgery. Away from school related stuff, I enjoy playing and talking about a variety of sports, mainly tennis and soccer; I'm a big astrophysics and music nerd (please come talk to me about those things!), and my humour is very dry so don't be alarmed if you don't understand it at first. Get in touch if you're up for a quick chat about anything and everything!

3rd Semester Class Reps:

Ryan McLoughlin

I was raised in Southwestern Connecticut in the United States. I attended The University of Vermont, graduating in 2012 with a BA in Political Science and minor in Middle Eastern Studies. I started in healthcare at The University of Vermont working on the University Ambulance, and in the ER. Following graduation, I went to work for the U.S. National Park Service at Mount Rainer in Washington state. There I served as the highest trained medical responder working in remote wilderness and at high altitude. Work with the National Park service exposed me to major logistical components of healthcare, as well as a chance to write drafts for the parks Medical Operations Plan, and Medical Needs assessment; including deployment to New York City for disaster response following Hurricane Sandy. I returned to school between travels to achieve a post-baccalaureate certificate for sciences required for Medical School. I spent the last few months in San Francisco working a trade job in live music and sound engineering, specializing in DJ performances

Jason Linder

Hi I am Jason. I am originally from Virginia, but have most recently lived and studied in New Hampshire and graduated in 2015 from University of NH- Manchester campus with a BA in biological sciences. I worked full time for a hospital in Concord, NH while completing my degree as a clinical lab assistant which afforded me the opportunity to gain exposure to many patient populations and the physicians on nearly every hospital service.
